Mexican Tile BathroomIn Mexican style homes, you expect to see a Mexican style bathroom. Quite often, however, the bathroom is not decorated at all. It is a blank slate waiting for the artist’s brush to splash color on its walls. This color helps to define a bathroom Mexican style.

The easiest way to begin to decorate the bathroom of a Mexican style house is to paint the walls a bold, bright color. Take a chance on a favorite color you never thought you could have used. The room is small enough that you could probably repaint it in a weekend, and that includes time for two coats of paint to dry. If the color is too bold, try a faux finish to tone it down a bit. You may want to paint the baseboards a contrasting color to give it some pop!

What do you do if you’re not ready to paint your walls? You can still add a Mexican feel to your bathroom by purchasing colorful towels in red, blue, yellow, red, or orange. Try to find a bath rug and curtains that incorporate the colors of your towels to tie the look together.

The Mexican bathroom floor normally is a glazed Mexican tiles, again in a bold color like terra cotta or cobalt blue. Many bathrooms in Mexican style houses use Saltillo tiles and create a tile rug. You would never use carpeting in the bathroom, but you may use an area rug as a bath mat.

Vanity Light Nutmeg

Although it might seem out of place, wrought iron is often common in the bathroom. Mexican style wrought iron vanities create weight in the room and give you an opportunity to use wrought iron elements in other ways in the bathroom.

  • A mirror framed in wrought iron would look great
  • Use wrought iron for the pull backs for the curtains.

Remember to use a design element in more than one way to get the most benefit.

For lighting in the bathroom, A Mexican style wrought iron chandelier would tie the look together. You can also go back to the rustic style that would match the bathroom fixtures.

Bathroom Mexican StyleEmily Dual Pillar Wall Sconce

Install a dimmer light and place pillar candles around the bathtub so you can relax in the bathtub.

Be careful to change out all bathroom fixtures if you change out any of them. You want to maintain a sense of consistency. Having a shiny silver faucet on the bathtub would look odd if your sink fixtures were changed to a dark, rustic style.

Your bathroom, Mexican style, may be the last room you need to conquer before you home is decorated just the way you want it. If you haven’t taken the time to decorate your bathroom, what are you waiting for? The effort will definitely be worth it!

Bathroom Remodeling IdeasI am always looking for bathroom remodeling ideas. I have helped out many clients with their projects… and designed a few for my own home.

Just because I am THAT Painter Lady… doesn't mean I don't have a few remodeling tricks up my sleeve.

Of course… paint will perk up any room. Adding a new fashionable color of paint will make your bathroom seem updated even if it's the same old cabinets and tile.

If your cabinets are wood toned… adding a shade of sage green will make the cabinets look more golden and the room feel fresher. If your fixtures are all white… the green will give the room a spa like feeling.

When we (you and I) decide to take on the job of remodeling our home there usually is a lot of decisions that go into the planning and construction side of a bathroom remodel. Whether you are thinking about the Master Bedroom bathroom or the family bathroom there are a many interesting ways you can make the value of the space go up… always thinking of resale value.

Their are two things you must consider when planning the budget for a bathroom remodel.

  • Don't spend the farm… if your going to be selling in the near future. Yes… bathrooms and kitchens are what sell a home, but adding all the extra luxuries may not help you sell the house… and you probably won't recoup the costs.
  • It really isn't necessary to do major remodeling in order to update a bathroom.

Think Day Spa!

Adding a Jacuzzi style tub to your bathroom adds a selling feature most women will love… and you will have some luxurious baths yourself. Your going to need them when all the work is done. But… when you plan to add a spa style tub to a bathroom you must plan in greater detail the entire bathroom floor plan. In order to actually add a Jacuzzi to your bathroom you will first need to make sure the space is big enough. Most of us find that we have too small of a bathroom and we start thinking of ways to enlarge the space.

This is what is happening in our Master Bath remodel. The only room we had to expand into was the walk in closet… which is great, until I need to hang up some clothes. So where to put the walk in closet now? Well, we are going to take out the French doors that lead to our large patio and build a wall in closet just outside that door opening. Because we have expanded our patio already… and a walk in closet isn't that big… no one will notice the small amount of space gone from the patio. And as a bonus… the roof and cement pad is already their… very inexpensive addition to our master bedroom.

Not Ready for a Major Bathroom Remodel?

So adding a Spa Tub is maybe a bit too extravagant for you. What can you do to ad a few luxury features to an already nice bathroom. How about an electric towel heater? This little luxury could add a bit of value to your home and it's an easy install for the DIY person in your home.

Did you know you can add additional cabinetry to your bathroom… without a carpenter? Shop online for some great deals at home stores. Often, you will find an extra cabinet that just fits into an unused space… adding extra storage, which we all need!

You can also find great cabinets that actually fit into the wall. Like a built in medicine cabinet… but large and they look like cabinets. When you open the door… their are a large amount of shelves, just deep enough for hair spray, shampoo bottles, lotion, shaving cream, toothpaste, and makeup… think about the possibilities!!!

Still looking for more bathroom ideas?

Another small thing you can do to update a bathroom is replace the toilet. An old toilet that is chipped, dated in color or stained so badly that it impossible to clean is something that is screaming to be replaced.

Placing a small TV or TV/DVD combination may not seem like an improvement… but you will be surprised at how nice it is to have it available. And if you install that Spa Tub… think about sitting in your tub, surrounded by warm bubbles and watching your favorite movie… by yourself!

Ah… I though I would get your attention with that easy bathroom remodeling idea!

First and perhaps the best indicator of the authenticity of it is the price.

Authentic antique vanity can go 10 times more expensive as its antique-design counterpart, or even more. And just like a good pair of jeans, it looks better through the years. Antique pieces are often made from mahogany, cherry and oak, types of hardwood that are known to last a lifetime, even more if it is treated properly with wood sealant. A good crafted one will not suffer any water damage.

Antique-design vanity on the other hand is relatively cheaper than its authentic counterpart but is still quite expensive. The price of a single piece can go from $400 to $2,000 depending on its size, design, and type of wood used.

While it is not authentic antique, it is designed and crafted to appear very old and to reflect the age gone by using the same type of wood from which authentic vanities are made from. One of the advantages for choosing this type is that you can get it brand new. Meaning, they have the look of all the antique beauty and elaborate designs, but without the wear and tear.

Also, your options are almost endless if you choose to buy brand new pieces without spending a lot of money.

Whether you buy an authentic or an imitation antique vanity, there are things that you have to make sure of. First, buy from a reputable manufacturer or antique store. Second, check the warranties that the company offers whether you buy it online or at your local antique or furniture store. And last, choose a vanity you really like.

Oh… and before I forget, I use coat hooks instead of towel bars in my bathrooms. The towels always get hung up, and they dry out better than if hung on towel bars.

I found these… Amish made, but look so rustic they will work perfectly in our Spanish Hacienda style bath.
