This is a great article! Arranging furniture is one of those things we tend to do by trial and error, so it's nice to have some guidelines. One of the tips we often give out to folks who are short on space but still want to have comfy seating, is to buy portable furniture. Bean bag chairs are great for this, and especially the ones with removable covers that are machine washable. You can move them around from room to room when you need them!

This was a useful tip. I like the idea of balancing the room with colour and big furniture. The problem I have is that my husband loves a blue velour sofa, I hate the colour, its modern style, its comfort level etc. So I bought another new sofa to suit our rustic decor ...but the 2 pieces 'shout' at each other now matter how I try to re-arrange! Help.
